Mido-suji Avenue

Mido-suji Avenue is a major street in Osaka city connecting two downtowns; Kita(North) and Minami(South). It is 4.5 km long. Kita is represented by Osaka Station, the entrance to Osaka. Minami is represented by entertainment districts, commonly known as Namba and Shinsaibashi.

Ohatsu-tenjin Shrine Ohatsu-tenjin Shrine is a small shrine located in an e ohatsuntertainment district. The shrine is well known to be efficacious to problems regarding love. It is because the shrine is the scene of "The Love Suicides at Sonezaki." This is a puppet play story but it is really happend. If you want to read it, it is translated by Donald Keene [though originally written by Chikamatsu Monzaemon].

Yodoyabashi and Honmachi areas Yodoyabashi and Honmachi areas are the center of business and commerce in Osaka and most popular working places for young women in Osaka. Many well-known Japanese companies stand along the Midosuji Street. In winter, it is beautifully lit up at night. Kita-mido Buddhist Temple Buddhist temple called Kita-Mido was built in 16th century.

Tmidosuji here is also Minami-Mido 300 meters apart on the same side of the street. These two temples are important for Midosuji street because "Mido-suji" has taken its name from Kita-Mido and Minami-Mido. "Kappo Osaka" is held in October. On this day, Midosuji avenue between Yodoyabashi and Nagahoribashi is open to only pedestrians. Various shops are set up and many music and sports events are held.

In July, 2011, strange thing happened on the Midosuji Avenue. Somebody dressed up the statues with red dresses. Dresses were already removed from statues.
