Naoshima & Inujima
Naoshima is
known as Art island. It is because of Benesse Art site. It takes only 2hours from Osaka by Shinkansen.
I don't like the idea that the one company takes over the island where residents have life, but the art on the island is quite unique and I like that.
You should defenitely stay at Benesse although it's expensive. The building was designed by Tadao Ando.
Access to Naoshima.:
Bullet train from Osaka to Okayama (about 1hour, 10,000yen)
JR train from Okayama to Uno (about 50 min, 1,000yen)
Ferry from Uno port to Miyaura port in Naoshima (20 min, 300yen)
*You can also go to Takamatsu or use the bus.
An old factory was transformed into art object "Refinary".
You need to make a reservation to visit this building and joing the guided tour. No photos are allowed inside the building. This art was designed by Sanbuichi Shiroshi. His work is also observed in Mt. Rokko.
It is worth visiting this small island even it takes one hour from Naoshima. I really like it.
Okayama station to Inujima
Okayama Station--[bus]-->Saidaiji Bus Center--[bus]-->Nishi-hoden--[ferry 10min, 300yen]--Inujima
Ferry is not available when the "refinary" is closed.
